If you claim House Rent Allowance (HRA), you need rent receipts as proof. The fastest way to make one is online — no Word template, no formatting, no signup. Here’s exactly how, plus the two rules that decide whether the receipt is actually accepted.
Step by step
- Open the free rent receipt generator.
- Enter the tenant name, landlord name, property address and the rental period (e.g. “August 2026”).
- Add the rent amount and choose the payment mode — UPI, bank transfer, cheque or cash.
- Add the landlord’s PAN if your annual rent is above ₹1,00,000 (see below).
- Generate and download the PDF. Print or share it as needed.
The two rules that make a receipt valid
Landlord PAN: required once your total rent for the year exceeds ₹1,00,000 (about ₹8,334/month). If your landlord doesn’t have one, see how to claim HRA without a landlord PAN.
Revenue stamp: a ₹1 revenue stamp is needed only when rent is paid in cash and the amount exceeds ₹5,000. Pay by UPI or bank transfer and you can skip it — the bank record is its own proof.
Doing it for the whole year
For annual filing, use the 12-month bulk generator to create all twelve receipts in one PDF. For the complete rules on format and stamps, read rent receipt for HRA.
